Dorset Council (Footpath 1, Lyme Regis) Public Path Diversion Order 2024
The above order, made on 15 March 2024 under section 119 of the Highways Act 1980, will divert Footpath 1, Lyme Regis as shown on the order map as follows:
From the existing path:
From its junction with Church Street (A3052) at SY 3438 9235, east and north east along East Cliff, continuing generally north east along coastal slopes then generally north north west through the allotment gardens to join Spittles Lane at SY 3450 9277.

From its junction with Footpath 2 at SY 3439 9215 east along a surfaced path to SY 3444 9215, north to SY 3444 9217, west to SY 3442 9217 and generally north east along the sea wall walkway to SY 3451 9238, then generally north up wooden steps to SY 3451 9239, continuing generally east up wooden steps to SY 3450 9239 and then continuing along a crushed stone path generally north west, north, west north west then north east to SY 3449 9254, then north north east and north west to SY 3445 9255, where it enters Charmouth Road car park, then continuing through the car park along a surfaced path west south west, north west, west south west and north west to SY 3441 9255, west south west to SY 3440 9255, south south east to SY 3440 9255, west south west to SY 3436 9254, generally north to SY 3436 9255 and generally west south west to its junction with Charmouth Road (A3052) at SY 3435 9255.
Width: 2 metres except between SY 3451 9238, SY 3451 9239 and SY 3450 9239 - 155 cm, at SY 3449 9254 - 160 cm, at SY 3445 9255 - 160 cm, at SY 3441 9255 - 150 cm, between SY 3441 9255 and SY 3440 9255 - 130 cm, and between SY 3436 9255 and SY 3435 9255 - 150 cm
A copy of the order and the order map have been placed and may be seen free of charge at Reception, County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester during normal office hours. Copies are also available on our website.
Any representations about or objections to the order may be sent in writing to Carol McKay, Definitive Map Team, Spatial Planning, Dorset Council, County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1XJ (Ref: RW/P175), or via email to definitivemapteam@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk, not later than 2 May 2024. Please state the grounds on which they are made. Any letters received will be made available for public inspection.
If no such representations or objections are duly made, or if any so made are withdrawn, the Dorset Council may confirm the order as an unopposed order. If the order is sent to the Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for confirmation any representations and objections which have not been withdrawn will be sent with the order.

Dorset Council (Footpath 1, Lyme Regis) Public Path Diversion Order 2024
On 30 December 2024 Dorset Council confirmed the above-named order made under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 as unopposed and the Council has certified that work has been carried out to bring the site of the new highway mentioned in article 3 of the order into a fit condition for use by the public.
The effect of the order as confirmed is to divert Footpath 1, Lyme Regis as shown on the order map as follows:
From the existing path:
From its junction with Church Street (A3052) at SY 3438 9235, east and north east along East Cliff, continuing generally north east along coastal slopes then generally north north west through the allotment gardens to join Spittles Lane at SY 3450 9277.

The order comes into force on 6 January 2025 but if any person aggrieved by the order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within six weeks from 27 February 2025, make an application to the High Court.
