Our Supported Lodgings service helps young people leaving care to experience the transition to becoming an adult in a safe environment.
You could become a Supported Lodgings provider and help a young person (age 18-25) leaving care on their journey towards adulthood and independent living.
Joining our supportive service and providing a home for a young person can give you many of the same rewards as fostering, without the time-commitment of providing full time care.
In our Supported Lodgings service, the focus is on supporting our young people with a stepping stone towards living independently. You’ll be able to continue with your own work, family time and other commitments.
You could help a young person grow in confidence and life skills with the aim that they will be prepared to live in their own accommodation when they leave your home.
Supported Lodgings providers
You could be considered to be a provider if you:
- are at least 21 years old
- already have a job
- come from any walk of life
- have a spare bedroom and are willing to share your home with a young person
- enjoy supporting young people with life skills, gaining confidence and education
- want to make a difference
As a Supported Lodgings provider, you will receive:
- training and support
- financial help towards living costs for the young person
- a weekly payment starting from £130
- support from existing Supported Lodgings Providers to share their experiences with you
- regular visits from our support team
Reach out to our enquiries team on the number below and you will be contacted by one of our Supported Lodgings Support Workers. If you feel this is the right fit for you, we will arrange a visit to your home to meet with you, and your 8 to 12 week assessment process will begin.
If you have a spare room and want to make a difference, please get in touch via phone on 01305 221000 or via email at fosteringenquiries@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
