How to find out the planning history for property or land
Online search, if you know the planning application numbers or part of the address, you can use our Planning Application Search and Comment facility to view planning decisions and supporting documents, including plans.
Use Dorset Explorer, this tool allows you to locate planning applications on a map. You can use the address search or the map's drag and zoom controls to find the area you are interested in. Links to planning applications records.
Request a planning history search. We will conduct the search for you. You will need to complete a planning history search form. The planning history will include a list of planning application references, descriptions, decisions (e.g., refused, approved), and the dates of those decisions.
- there is a fee of £102 (includes VAT) per site, and payment is required in advance. Requests can be sent by email to dataandperformance@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk. We aim to respond to requests within 10 working days of payment
- you will need to provide a location plan with identifiable landmarks/roads (a screenshot from a map is sufficient)
Only public documents that are part of our planning (record) online register will be available online and as part planning history search. For documents not included in the register, you will need to submit a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to obtain them.
