Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council jointly commissioned an Employment Land Study. Prepared by Iceni Projects and completed in March 2024, it provides shared evidence to inform Local Plan production, Employment Land Reviews and other work. It is not a binding or statutory plan and each organisation will use the study as it sees fit.
What is the Employment Land Study?
The study looks at the Functional Economic Market Area (FEMA) and provides an assessment of employment needs to 2039 using growth forecast data. It assesses the existing and potential future supply of sites and compares it with estimated demand. It also makes recommendations to help prevent constraints to economic growth.

What does the study update?
The local authorities of Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole in association with the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) prepared a Workspace Strategy (2016) for the Dorset LEP area. Additional Workspace Strategy Evidence on Employment Projections was published in 2020.
The Employment Land Study (2024) takes account of changes in the economic context since the preparation of these previous workspace strategies for the area.
