The Statement of Accounts shows the financial performance of the former West Dorset District Council and details our finances. Our accounts are prepared in accordance with CIPFA/LASAAC Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting in the United Kingdom as required by regulation 8 of the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015.

External audit
The council's accounts are subject to inspection by external auditors. They produce a report on their findings which is considered by the Audit and Governance Committee.

The council has a statutory requirement to review the effectiveness of its governance systems at least once a year. The details of the review and findings are published in the Annual Governance Statement which is included within the Statement of Accounts.

Internal audit
Internal Audit is an independent appraisal function provided by the South West Audit Partnership Ltd (SWAP)which was established in April 2005 under Section 101 of the Local Government Act 1972. Its main purpose is to examine and evaluate the activities of the council with the objective of assisting the organisation in the effective discharge of its duties. It also aims to assure elected members that the council's financial affairs are kept under review.
Notice of appointment of auditor from 2018/19
Under Section 8(2) of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, the Council must publish a notice relating to the appointment of its local auditor.
For audits of accounts from 1 April 2018, Public Sector Audit Appointments Limited (PSAA) is responsible for appointing an auditor to principal local government and police bodies that have chosen to opt into its national auditor appointment arrangements. The former West Dorset District Council opted into this arrangement.
The PSAA board has approved the appointment of Deloitte LLP to audit the accounts of the former West Dorset District Council for a period of five years, covering the accounts from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2023.
This appointment is made under Regulation 13 of the Local Audit (Appointing Person) Regulations 2015.
