Land Use Consultants was appointed in January 2008 by Christchurch Borough Council to draw together an evidence base relating to potential ecological impacts and mitigation options linked with the expansion of Bournemouth Airport.

Options for development and infrastructure assessed as part of this study included:

  • expansion of terminal and airport facilities to meet projected growth in air passenger numbers
  • development of employment land in the northern business park within the airport boundary
  • transport infrastructure for linked to the above proposals
  • drainage and sewerage infrastructure

Section 5 of the Ecological Study sets out further detail of the development and infrastructure options that were assessed. Relevant plans and projects that may influence future proposals were also taken into account.

This study was to to create an evidence base for the Appropriate Assessment under the Habitats Regulations 1994 for the Christchurch Core Strategy 'Issues and Options' consultation in 2008.

Further Habitats Regulations Assessment has also been undertaken by Land Use Consultants for subsequent stages of the Core Strategy from 'Options for Consideration' (2010) to the Schedule of Proposed Changes to the Core Strategy Pre Submission Document (2012)

The Bournemouth Airport Ecological Study Working Final Report and Ecological Study Working Final Report Appendices should be read alongside these further assessments.
