The Youth Endowment Fund is funding a randomised controlled trial of a therapeutic intervention to help parents to reduce their conflict.
Do you have a child or children aged between 8 and 14? Are you currently in conflict with your partner or co-parent? The Support for inter-parental conflict (SIPCo) project could help.
We are looking for parents who live in Dorset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) and Bristol who:
- have a child aged 8 to 14
- have conflict with a partner or co-parent
- are willing to try something new to help reduce their conflict
The SIPCo project aims to help you learn strategies to reduce the conflict between you and your partner, or between you and your co-parent if you are no longer together.
Referred families will receive either mentalization-based therapy for parents under pressure (MBT-PP) or specialised online resources and support for reducing parental conflict provided by the local authority. Which kind of support families receive will be decided on a random basis.
MBT-PP involves online therapy sessions with a therapist, in which you will be supported to communicate better. MBT-PP is delivered by Tavistock Relationships.
The online resources are programmes that you will work through at your own pace with the support of a local authority staff member.
We expect both interventions (MBT-PP and the online resources) to be helpful to parents who need to reduce their conflict.
