Fire risk assessment

Anyone operating a camping site should carry out a fire risk assessment. This comes from The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Electrical safety

Every 12 months you should arrange testing of your site. You can read more about the recommendation in the Guidance Note 3 (GN3) - Inspection and Testing.

LPG storage

Campsites that use and store LPG cylinders must:

  • follow the latest guidance
  • ensure they meet the legal requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Drinking water

Most campsites will provide water for guests to use. This might be:

  • direct from the mains
  • distributed beyond the mains (for example stand-pipes)
  • or be a private water supply

We make sure that water, beyond what utilities supply, is safe for drinking, washing and more. Please register your supply with us (no fee). We need to check that the water quality and that it does not cause a risk to health. This may involve:

  • testing and treating the water
  • ensuring the pipes meet a certain standard

If we take a sample or do a risk assessment, there will be a charge. More information and charges can be found on our private water supplies page. Private water supplies - Dorset Council
