Project: To create and film a new outdoor dance performance on Eggardon Hill.
Grant: £2,500
Area of benefit: Bridport
Rural isolation in Bridport can be a significant problem for the young people in West Dorset.
Bridport Youth Dance offers artistic, creative and performance opportunities to young people and enables them to work with professional artists.
Due to the funding, the project was able to pay a composer to create an original score for the fourth Dance Weaver (DW) film - Choreography Geography and employed a sound engineer and musicians for this score.
13 local artists were employed for the live performance and the DW film, which included:
- choreographers
- a cinematographer
- composer
- puppeteer
- and musicians
DANCE in the LAND acted as a relaunch following the closure of Bridport Youth Dance during the pandemic where the studio was closed for 60 weeks. This project was about reconnecting to nature and highlighted the benefits emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually of bringing in nature for the audience and young dancers alike.
Choreography Geography was a celebration of dance, of nature and of young people. From this project we have also developed strong relationships and partnerships with organisations such as The National Trust, Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Activate Performing Arts and Pavilion Dance Southwest.
