Project: Remix the Originals, the next chapter
Grant: £1,500
Area of benefit: Dorchester and Wimborne
Remix The Originals was set up by Activate Performing Arts to enable young adults to have access to the performing arts. It is 100% inclusive and all the participants have a disability.
The Originals project is now well established and enables 20 young people who are disabled, access to high quality performing arts provision.
This project enabled 5 Freelance artists and performers, to deliver 6 supported workshops for the young people to develop their performance skills.
There was a showcase at the Bay Theatre in Weymouth where the young people joined 9 other youth groups for a Christmas show playing to an audience of 500 members.
The project also gave the young people 3 opportunities to go to the theatre.
It is difficult for young people who are disabled to access mainstream performing arts workshops due to their support needs. The Originals group now has 20 members who all love learning new skills and meeting up with friends in a supported and friendly environment.
This project has met a number of key cultural outcomes.
