You may have seen on the news that Dorset is benefitting from government funding to help bring gigabit capable broadband to more of our areas. This is called Project Gigabit.

Under Project Gigabit, the government is overseeing contracts with broadband suppliers to bring fully state-funded, gigabit capable broadband to eligible areas.

Project Gigabit aims to fill a gap and serve the homes and businesses not included in any commercial broadband delivery plans.

Phase one in Dorset is underway

The first phase of Project Gigabit was awarded to Wessex Internet, bringing full fibre to around 7,000 premises in north and east Dorset from now and until 2025.

Phase two coming soon

The second phase of Project Gigabit, which will cover the remaining parts of Dorset, is expected to be awarded to a broadband supplier in early 2024.
