The course dates are:

• 6 February 2025, 9:30am to 12:30pm, Room 1/2 Purbeck Centre, Wareham

Course aim

To have an overview of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and develop the necessary skills and knowledge to apply it, make Best Interest Decisions and understand the Deprivation of Liberty process.

Course learning objectives

When assessing capacity, you will:

• understand the process of assessing capacity and the thresholds for decisions
• develop the practical skills needed to assess capacity
• ensure appropriate record keeping

When making Best Interest Decisions, you will:

• understand of the process of making Best Interest Decisions
• know who needs to be involved in Best Interest Decision making
• develop the practical skills needed to assess Best Interests
• ensure appropriate record keeping

When dealing with Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), you will:

• understand what DoLS is, depending on which sector
• know your role, the information needed, and the tools and contacts to complete this, whether applying for a DoLS or going to the Court of Protection
• stay updated on the current position around Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) as a replacement for DoLS

Managers/lead practitioners working in Social Care.

£40 per attendee

These costs will also be incurred for attendees who are classified as a late cancellation, meaning those who cancel their place within 1 week of the course date, or are a ‘no show’ on the day of the course.
