What services are being provided?

The provision of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders and Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices for roadworks, events and other activities on the public highway, made under the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

When you apply for a temporary traffic order, you'll be agreeing to our use of some of your contact details so that we may meet our minimum obligations.

What personal data do we need from you?

  • postcode
  • email address
  • contact mobile (or landline) number (which must be available 24 hours a day)

Who might use your personal information?

The following organisations or departments may use the information you provide:

  • Dorset Highways (Dorset Council)
  • other local neighbouring authorities
  • members of the general public (limited to name, contact number and by exception, an email address)

What will your information be used for and what is the lawful basis for requesting and using it?

  1. Administrative purposes within Dorset Council (Highways) - all personal information provided
  2. Individuals assume responsibility for their activities on the public highway, part of which includes being the point of contact for enquiries relating to the activity and traffic management. Information provided will be used in documentation, namely stakeholder engagement and public notices which will be placed into the public domain.

  • an email address (in very limited circumstances)

This information will be included in:

  • stakeholder engagement
  • public notices

These documents will be made available to primary stakeholders, who include:

  • emergency services
  • bus operators
  • elected representatives
  • town and parish council
  • Dorset Council services
  • offices of the Department for Transport
  • neighbouring local authorities
  • any other relevant organisations within the transportation industry

These bodies could also choose to re-distribute this information among their areas of interest.

This information may also:

  • be displayed on the streets subject to a traffic restriction
  • be displayed on our roadworks, closures and events map (provided by one.network), which can be viewed by members of the general public, who could also choose to re-distribute the information amongst their areas of interest
  • used to fulfil a response to any customer enquiry or complaint as appropriate and we reserve the right to redirect enquiries and complaints from members of the public to named contacts

Personal information will not be shared for commercial purposes.

If we cannot use your data in the manner described, we may not be able to provide this service.

In order for us to provide you with the above services, we may share personal data with:

  • local emergency and health services
  • bus operators
  • elected representatives
  • town and parish councils
  • Dorset Council services
  • any other local organisation with which Dorset Council considers would benefit from notification
  • offices of the Department for Transport
  • neighbouring local authorities
  • one.network - in contract with Dorset Council
  • INRIX - in contract with Dorset Council
  • any other relevant organisation in the transportation industry

Will your data be stored in, processed or accessible from countries outside the UK, EU or EEA countries?

Yes, your personal data (no more than a name and contact phone number) may be made available on one.network/public.

This will be the case from the point Dorset Council publishes the information online (before the activity is due to start), and once the activity has concluded information is normally withdrawn.

How long will we keep your information?

We will cease using your data as soon as you no longer require our services. For legal reasons, Dorset Council will retain your data for a maximum of 21 years and nine months, at which point it will be archived.
