Extended access is a service that enables you to use the library when staff are not present. We are launching extended access into four libraries as part of a pilot following a successful funding bid with Arts Council England.
Extended Access will be available at Verwood library in the new year followed by Sturminster Newton, Sherborne and Gillingham libraries during 2025.
Libraries are key community assets, growing beyond book loaning, with the spaces being used for meeting, studying, IT, events and socialising. Extended Access expands the service delivery of our libraries, enabling them to be reimagined as community spaces from which a range of cultural, heritage and other services can be delivered by the Council, partners and the community.
During Extended Access you will be able to:
- borrow, return and renew library items using self-service kiosks
- use a free library computer or free library Wi-Fi and print documents
- use study spaces
- access online e-resources
- meet with friends or join a social connecting interest group
- take part in activities provided by library partners during Extended Access
For safety reasons there are no toilet facilities available during Extended Access hours.
We will let you know when Extended Access is available at Verwood library with details within the library and on our website about how members and new library customers can sign up to the service.
