Planning Officer (Minerals and Waste)
I joined the Minerals and Waste Planning team six months ago straight out of university. I feel grateful to have had such an excellent start to my career in planning within such a supportive team.
Across Dorset Council, all my interactions with colleagues have been nothing but positive. I really appreciated the support I received during the completion of my dissertation.
To me, the best part about the Minerals and Waste team is the variety. For example, we have Development Management, Policy, and Enforcement Officers all within the same tight-knit team, which provides a great deal of breadth.
However, the work itself is also very varied and engaging. I have had the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of major applications and sites; from quarries, oil wells, and waste incinerators, to nuclear sites and anaerobic digestors.
Dorset, with its unique geology, is a particularly interesting place for Minerals Planning. Perhaps unfairly, Minerals and Waste doesn’t receive as much attention as other specialisms in Planning, but if you are considering a move into Minerals and Waste, make the leap, you won’t regret it – I certainly don’t!
