You can borrow an iPad for a period of up to 6 weeks, free of charge if you are:

  • aged 18 or over
  • a full member of the Dorset Library Service
  • resident in the Dorset Council area

The iPads are available to borrow from any Dorset library.

The scheme is designed for anyone, including people who may have little or no previous experience in using an iPad or tablet.

The iPads come with data so you do not need to have internet access at home. They come with a keyboard case and a stereo headset for online interviews. They are user-friendly and have links to websites with information about:

  • employment, writing a CV and interview skills
  • money, claiming benefits and maintaining a Universal Credit claim
  • health and wellbeing
  • computing skills

The iPad provides library service information, including:

  • links to the online catalogue
  • apps for our eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and eNewspapers

Become a full member to take part

If you are not already a member, joining the Dorset Library Service is free.  You can join the library online to borrow digital resources such as e-books and e-newspapers.

To borrow an iPad you will need to visit your local library and become a full member. Library staff will help you with the process.

An iPad request form will need to be filled in and signed.  You will also need to agree to our terms and conditions for iPad use.

When borrowing an iPad library staff will show you two short videos, which explain how to use the device and the information that you can access.

All devices are remotely managed by the Dorset Library Service and can be locked if necessary preventing access at any time.

Upon receipt of your request to borrow an iPad the library service will contact you via email to organise collection.
