Introduction to climbing course

Learn how the basics of independent climbing over three Wednesday evenings:

  • 9, 16 and 23 October
  • 5pm to 7pm
  • open to all 11 to 18 year olds
  • £60 per person for the three sessions

Learn how the basics of independent climbing from correctly fitting your own harness and tying in using a rethreaded figure of eight with stopper. You will also learn how to safely belay a climber using a gri-gri device. Once complete, you will be ready to improve your personal climbing with the Wednesday evening club.

Spring and summer outdoor climbing club

11 to 18 year-olds are invited to climb weekly on a Wednesday evening during term time: 

  • 5pm to 8pm
  • £90 per block of 6 weeks
  • 5 June to 17 July (excluding 3 July)

Open to those who have previously attended the club or have completed the introduction to climbing course or equivalent (can correctly fit own harness, tie in using a rethreaded figure of eight with stopper, and belay using a gri-gri device).

All equipment, including minibus transport included.

  • £60 per block of 6 weeks

  • 16 October to 27 November (excluding 30 October)

Climbing club day trips

Climbing club members are invited to join the climbing day trips to try a variety of venues: 

  • 9am to 3pm
  • £40 per person
  • Thursday 30 May, Parthian indoor climbing centre
  • Thursday 1 August, Dorset crag climbing
  • Saturday 19 October, Parthian indoor climbing centre
  • Saturday 7 December, Parthian indoor climbing centre

Build on the climbing skills you have developed as part of the club by climbing at some of the biggest indoor climbing walls the region has to offer. Meet at WOEC for 9am and journey with your instructors to the venue. Drop off will be at WOEC at 3pm (Instructors will contact parents and guardians if there are any significant delays for returning). Participants should bring food and drink for the day, or a means of purchasing this at location.

Wild Sessions

The Wild holiday club sessions are bookable by either the half day or full day and provide an adventurous alternative to a standard holiday club:

  • morning session 9:30am to 12:30pm
  • afternoon session 1:30pm to 4:30pm 
  • £25 per person, per session
  • ages 8 to 14 years 
  • lunch not provided (bring a packed lunch if booking a full day)

Activities range from kayaking and giant paddle boarding though to climbing and archery, not to mention the all-time popular indoor tunnels.

Short Break SEND activity sessions 

£6 per person, per half day session

Join the friendly team of instructors to explore adventure sports in a small and supportive group. Open to young people with mild to moderate needs. These sessions are part of the Short Break scheme, providing a short break to parents and guardians. Sessions are part funded by Dorset Council. Please get in touch if you have any difficulty paying the sessional rate as we want all families to have the opportunity to book.

Sessions available for ages 7 to 11 and 12 to 17.

Holiday activity and food program (HAF) 

10am to 4pm daily

Free with a HAF passcode.

We would like to invite young people of the local area to join us for a day of activities and lunch at Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre. Activities will include climbing, tunnels and watersports.

Summer holiday dates

Open to all 10 to 16 year olds with a HAF passcode:

All safety equipment is provided, including wetsuits and buoyancy aids. Participants will need to wear sports clothing for the climbing and tunnelling and bring a swimming costume to go under a wetsuit, a towel to get dry on and a second pair of shoes (or water/beach shoes) that can get wet.

Lunch is provided, but we ask that you bring a water bottle to refill. To book a place for this HAF activity session, fill out this form, once per child.

Spaces will be allocated approximately two weeks prior to the activity day, and you will be emailed by a member of the Weymouth Outdoor Education Team to confirm.
