Dorset Council in partnership with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.
When the Order comes into operation on 16th August 2024 the effect of the Order will be to introduce new lengths of 30mph speed limits along sections of the A35, A350, B3067 and Longmeadow Lane at Upton.

The Order will introduce ‘prohibition of motor vehicles’ on a section of Barnes Way, Dorchester during the hours of 8.20am until 9am and 2.55pm until 3.35pm on every school day.

The general effect of the Order will be to introduce the following restrictions:
• Prohibit any vehicle (except local buses and pedal cycles) to enter or proceed on a section along Mampitts Road, Shaftesbury.
• Prohibit any vehicle to turn left (except local buses and pedal cycles) from Pound Lane onto Mampitts Road, Shaftesbury.
Under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 Dorset Council hereby gives notice that it proposes to introduce two road humps in Mampitts Road, Shaftesbury (3.5m long and 75mm high). The road humps will be constructed to the Department for Transport specification.

The effect of the proposal will be to revoke the existing 40 mph speed limits and introduce new lengths of 30mph speed limits along sections of the A353 and C905 Littlemoor Road, Weymouth.

Dorset Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.
When the Order comes into operation on 11th October 2024 the effect of the Order is to reduce the speed limit from 70 mph to 60 mph on a section of the A30 Yeovil to Shaftesbury Road, from a point approximately 57 metres west of its junction with the eastern entrance of Barton Gardens in a south westerly direction for a distance of approximately 5.3 km.

Stages of consultation
TROs have to follow a legal procedure to make sure they can be introduced appropriately.
Initial consultation
The local county councillor, Dorset Police representative and parish and town councils are consulted. They need to give their full support of the proposal before any public advertisement.
Draft Order stage
The Draft Notice is advertised to the public. Each Draft Order is advertised in the local press, posted on the street and available online. Comments for or against the scheme must be made within 3 weeks.
Authority to proceed
If no objections are received, then authority to proceed can be obtained from senior management. If there are objections, these are reported to the appropriate committee who make a recommendation to cabinet. This may be to proceed as advertised, make modifications to or abandon the proposal altogether.
Made Order stage
When approval has been granted, the order is then legally signed and sealed before it becomes operational. The Made Order is then re-advertised and 6 weeks are given to challenge it in the High Court on procedural grounds.
