Use our interactive map to find out if your property is in a Conservation areas (CA).
We have many attractive villages and other areas of special architectural or historic interest. In order to protect their character and appearance these have been designated as conservation areas.
We designate and review the conservation areas and give design advice on matters that may affect their character.
For works in conservation areas, we pay special attention to preserving or enhancing their character or appearance.
We have carried out detailed studies of each of the conservation areas which have been published as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG). These appraisals show the environmental elements that contribute towards the unique character of each area.
The appraisals will be used as background information in judging how individual proposals will affect the special character of each area. Any proposal that has an adverse effect on these features will not be permitted. Proposals that can be seen to enhance the conservation area, subject to other prevailing planning policies, will be encouraged.
