We are required to prepare a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) to provide realistic assumptions about the availability, suitability and the likely economic viability of land to meet the identified need for housing over the plan period. In addition we are required to plan to meet the economic needs of the area, including identifying sufficient land for future development.
We are reviewing our recently adopted Joint Local Plan. To help in this process we carried out a 'call for sites' to identify sites that may have potential for development over the next 15 years and beyond.
The 'call for sites' was an opportunity for agents, landowners and developers to submit land which they believe could be developed to meet future demand for homes and jobs. All site owner details submitted as part of the 'call for sites' are confidential.

Paper copies of the form can also be requested using the same contact details. Submitted sites will be kept on file and may still be considered.
The SHLAA 2018 is now a ‘live database’ and 'GIS interactive map'that consolidates and supersedes the 2014 & 2016 SHLAA’s. Any sites submitted through an open ‘call for sites’ up to until July 2018 have also be assessed and published. Any new sites submitted during the Preferred Options public consultation will be reviewed and included in future updates before the Local Plan Review is finally submitted.
The previous West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland 2014 SHLAA (document ref CD/SUS9), 2015 SHLAA update (document ref CD/SUS13) and Employment Land Review (document ref CD/SUS4) are available in our Evidence Document List. The 2016 SHLAA is now superseded but can still be viewed under the Local Plan Review Research and Evidence page.
We are pleased to announce the launch of their Brownfield Registers.
Brownfield land registers are intended to provide up-to-date and consistent information on brownfield sites that local authorities consider to be appropriate for residential led development. Registers will be in two parts. Part 1 will comprise all brownfield sites appropriate for residential development and Part 2 those sites granted permission in principle. Registers should be published locally as open data and will provide transparent information about suitable and available sites.

Sites currently included on the Brownfield Registers are also available to view on our web based Geographical Information System (GIS).
The information in the register is correct at the time of publication, December 2017. We will carry out an annual update to the register in line with the government guidance.
