Weather disruption
Winter weather is causing disruption to services in some parts of the county. Find out what services may be affected in your area.
Particular locations around Christchurch and East Dorset have options proposed for significant change. These areas all have sites which are considered suitable for potential housing or employment land development. As part of the Core Strategy Options for Consideration consultation that has now closed, we produced a series of leaflets to focus on the settlements which share similar challenges.
The settlements of Christchurch, Corfe Mullen, Ferndown and West Parley, Verwood and Wimborne and Colehill all have sites which are considered suitable for potential housing development. The size of potential development varies between the sites, however, for most there would be the expectation that there would be some gain for the existing local community in the form of new open space or enhanced community facilities.
Christchurch and East Dorset face many potential changes over the next few years, in order to provide homes for local people. We also need to provide employment and have included options for employment sites as well.
The Core Strategy Options for Consideration consultation closed on 14 January 2011. Thank you for the comments received. The leaflets that summarise the options proposed for significant change and that were consulted on are still available below.
In the Corfe Mullen housing options leaflet we asked whether we can provide sites for new neighbourhoods on the edge of Corfe Mullen which are sustainable, so as to add to the prosperity and liveliness of the village and if so, where and how?
In the Ferndown and West Parley housing options leaflet we asked whether we can provide sites for new neighbourhoods on the edge of Ferndown and West Parley which are sustainable, so as to add to their prosperity and liveliness and if so, where and how?
In the Verwood and West Moors housing options leaflet we asked whether we can provide sites for new neighbourhoods on the edge of Verwood which are sustainable, so as to add to their prosperity and liveliness and if so, where and how?
In the Wimborne and Colehill housing options leaflet we asked whether we can provide sites for new neighbourhoods on the edge of the town which are sustainable, so as to add to the town's prosperity and liveliness and if so, where and how?
In the Christchurch Urban Extension leaflet we asked for your views on the Borough's strategic site for potential future housing development.
Over the next 15 years we face significant challenges in the provision of jobs, stimulating inward investment and local business growth, and sustainable growth of the tourist industry. We have looked at locations where new employment sites could be provided. These are currently in the Green Belt and the boundary would therefore need to be amended. In the Employment land options for East Dorset leaflet we asked for your views on potential new sites throughout East Dorset.
