Please note that Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) for Christchurch and East Dorset 2016 has now been superseded, since the formation of the unitary councils of Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole Council. The most recent Dorset Council Statement of Community Involvement can be found on the Dorset Council Local Plan pages.
The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) for Christchurch and East Dorset sets out how the community, businesses, developers, landowners and other organisations can engage with the planning system with regard to our Local Plan, planning policy documents and planning applications.
The SCI 2016 was adopted by East Dorset District Council on 11 July 2016 and by Christchurch Borough Council on 12 July 2016. It replaces the Statement of Community Involvement adopted in 2006.
The SCI provides the framework for consultation for both the authorities when producing planning policy documents prepared as part of the Local Plan, and for consultation on planning applications. The SCI includes:
- some guiding principles for engagement on all Christchurch and East Dorset consultations (not just planning) and possible methods of consultation;
- requirements regarding the "Duty to Cooperate" as introduced by the Localism Act 2011;
- who will be consulted on the Local Plan and other planning policy documents and how this will happen; and
- how you can engage with the planning policy process and development management (planning applications) process.
The SCI was subject to public consultation for 6 weeks from 28 October 2015. The schedule below sets out a summary of the comments received, the officer responses, and the changes made to the consultation draft which have been incorporated into the adopted SCI 2016.
