Dorset Council is committed to tackling climate change and supporting our natural environment.

Our vision is for a resilient, carbon neutral, nature positive Dorset. This includes becoming a carbon-neutral council by 2040, and helping the whole of Dorset become carbon-neutral by 2050 (at the latest).

In 2020, we published our first Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy (2021-23) which outlined some of the key challenges and issues we face as a council and some of the important areas where we need to act.

In recent years, lots of progress has been made in government policy and technology. To make sure our approach reflects these changes, we’ve produced a refreshed Natural Environment, Climate & Ecology Strategy.

To help create a nature positive Dorset and tackle wildlife loss in our county, we’re working with partners to produce a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Dorset.
