Residents in Melrose Court in Poundbury will be getting extra help under the new contract

Residents living in two of our Extra Care Housing sites in Poundbury and Blandford are to receive extra night-time support following the awarding of a contract to Apex Prime Care from this week.

The residents at Melrose Court in Poundbury and Trailway Court in Blandford will benefit from the additional 24/7 care provision.

One of the key benefits of Extra Care Housing is the strong sense of community that it encourages, with residents provided with plenty of opportunities for social interaction in communal areas.

Extra Care schemes act as hubs for the wider community, welcoming local residents and businesses into the space for social and leisure activities. This opens up opportunities for residents to connect with others and remain engaged in their community.

The design of this type of accommodation encourages residents to get out and about, remain independent and enjoy the local amenities on their doorstep. The new contract also provides some funding to provide greater opportunities for residents.

Ash Gerrard, Apex Prime Care regional operations manager, said: "By enriching residents' lives through dedicated support, this partnership reflects a broader vision of positioning Trailway Court residents as active participants in their communities. Whether through organising community trips, social events, or connecting residents with volunteer opportunities, this service emphasises independence, engagement and meaningful living.

"We are delighted to partner with Dorset Council to deliver a holistic support system that goes beyond care needs. This collaboration ensures that our residents are not only well supported but also empowered to lead fulfilling lives within their communities."

Councillor Steve Robinson, Cabinet Portfolio lead for Adult Social Care, said Extra Care Housing was a key element of the council's Communities for All vision.

"This supportive environment promotes social inclusion, physical activity and a higher quality of live, allowing residents to remain independent and fully enjoy their lives as part of the local community."
