Dorset Council is forming a new group for young people – The Dorset Unstoppables – to capture the voices of young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

To join The Dorset Unstoppables, children and young people must be aged between 11-25, have a special educational need or disability and live in the Dorset Council area.

The aim of The Dorset Unstoppables is to give young people an accessible, safe and inclusive space to be listened to. Young people will have the opportunity to share feedback and ideas in a variety of ways to ensure to ensure that young people and council decision makers work together to get services right for families and children and young people in Dorset.

Two online webinars will take place at the end of January for young people, parents, and carers to find out more about the group and the type of activities that they will take part in.

The group will be supported by Dorset Council’s Youth Voice team who work with children and young people across the Dorset Council area and are committed to enabling children and young people to be heard, listened to, and have the opportunity to influence decisions that affect them.

Cllr Clare Sutton, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education, and Skills, said:

“We want to provide all children and young people with an inclusive environment where they feel seen and heard, and their voices are represented in a way that works for them.

“Working with Dorset’s young people has a real impact on council services. It plays a key role in our decision-making process by keeping our families at the centre of our work. Working with groups like The Dorset Unstoppables will allow us to create better council services together, that serve our children, young people, and their families more effectively.”
