Funding available to support Dorset communities

Community groups, education settings and volunteer organisations can now apply for funding through their Local Alliance Group.

Local Alliance Groups bring together people who are passionate about improving the lives of children, young people and families.

There are seven Alliance Groups across the Dorset Council area, each focused on identifying priorities and developing initiatives that directly benefit their local area.

In the last round of funding, 159 projects received support, all aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of Dorset’s children, young people and families.

Past initiatives include building a Roundhouse at Prince of Wales school in Dorchester, a sailing project at aimed at boosting attendance at Dorset Studio school, and a new counselling service being run out of Wareham Family Hub.

Now, local communities, including young people themselves, are encouraged to think creatively about how funding could best support their needs.

Whether it is new activities, improved facilities or innovative support services, the funding is there to help bring these ideas to life.

Councillor Clare Sutton, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Childrens Services, Education and Skills, said: "We want Dorset to be a place where every child and young person has the best opportunities to thrive.

“This funding empowers local groups to make meaningful projects happen and young people have an important role to play in shaping what those projects should be.”

“I encourage everyone, especially young people, to get involved, share ideas and help shape the future of their communities."

Individual schools or community groups can apply for up to £5000.  Partnerships, which include two or more organisations such as a school and a charity working together, can apply for up to £20,000.

Applicants do not need to be existing members of their local Alliance Group to apply.

Successful applicants will be expected to share updates and success stories throughout the process.
