Borrow an iPad for free from Dorset Libraries
In January 2023 Dorset Library Service started running an iPad loan scheme for customers who wanted to find employment or improve their health and wellbeing.
Additional devices have now been purchased, thanks to support from the council’s Cost of Living fund, to expand the iPad lending scheme.
iPads can now be booked across more of the Dorset library network. They can be borrowed for up to 6 weeks free of charge.
The scheme is being offered by Dorset Council libraries, who are working with Citizen’s Advice and the Department for Work and Pensions to help people search and apply for jobs online. They can also be used to access online training to gain skills and knowledge, as well as for claiming financial support such as Universal Credit, and to look for health and wellbeing support.
The devices are easy to use, with an instructional video, and support from library staff and digital champions. There is no need for broadband as the tablets have free data and are fully loaded with information about looking for work and learning new skills.
Cllr Ryan Hope, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Customer and Community Engagement, said:
“This is a great opportunity for people who are struggling to find employment through traditional ways, to try a different approach for free.
“The scheme has been very successful so far, and these additional devices will help more people get online quickly and easily, right across the Dorset area.
“If you need help, our digital champions are very good at supporting the inexperienced to get online.”
You need to be a full member of the Dorset Library Service to borrow a device. Apply online or visit your local library to get started. Further information about the scheme can be found at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/borrow-an-ipad.
