Weather disruption
Winter weather is causing disruption to services in some parts of the county. Find out what services may be affected in your area.
The Dorset Council Metal Detectorists Liaison Scheme was set up in 1994 to recognise and support the many responsible metal detectorists active in the county, and encourage best practice in the recovery, reporting and care of metal detector finds.
We promote collaboration between those who use metal detectors and the archaeological community, and help them present a positive image of their hobby to the public at large. Scheme members undertake to abide by the Code of best practice for metal detecting in Dorset and are provided with a membership card to demonstrate their bona fides.
Regular mailings are sent to scheme members, and training and field events organised. We also have a finds care scheme, to provide storage materials such as plastic boxes and bags at cost price.
Please note that applications made after 20 November 2023 will be rolled over into 2024 and cards sent out in January.
Before you start: new applicants and people re-joining the scheme who have not been members since 2019 will need to upload a passport-style photograph.
If you would like a paper version of the application form, please get in touch.
If the scheme is not for you, email us to join our mailing list for information about metal detecting and of general interest relating to archaeology:
