Comment from a County Group member's parent
I wanted to email to say thank you for all the opportunities you are giving the brass group. It is fantastic not just the group itself, which is great, but also the extras like playing at Lidl, the Trinity session and the Weymouth festival. The boys have got so much out of playing in a group and they think the world of you. It is a lot of your time, and often at weekends, which is a big ask but we really appreciate it.
They were very positive about the Trinity afternoon. They were tired, so had obviously had to concentrate, but talked all the way home about what they had been doing. When we got home my son wanted to play his cornet again and I thought he would be sulky because he had not had much free time in the day. Watching the performance I was impressed, not just by the talent of the more experienced musicians, but also by the concentration on the faces of the younger players. They knew what they were doing and were keen to play their part. This sense of involvement had clearly been fostered during the afternoon and all felt they could contribute. It seemed an excellent way of encouraging aspiration. - Parent
Comment following in-school support
Our music teacher has taken risks with teaching and really and truly raised the profile of music at our school. This is in no small part down to your guidance - giving them the ideas and mandate to make changes. I am very thankful. I would be very grateful for your continued support. - Headteacher
Comments following the Musicianship Programme
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the opportunity you and your service have provided for my son at Lytchett Matravers Primary to learn an instrument for the first time, via the musicianship programme. He is extremely happy playing the cornet and I am happy that he has taken up a new interest, which we may never have even considered had it not been for the musicianship programme. I was so proud to watch him doing his little solo with you at the school Christmas concert! He is a quiet child and this has really helped him grow in confidence and also to appreciate what learning an instrument is all about. Once again, many thanks for your support and your enthusiasm as a teacher. I hope he will continue to play an instrument for many years to come. - Parent
I am just writing to say thank you so much for providing this service. Yesterday, a number of pupils' parents, family, friends and myself were lucky enough to be able to take time from a working day to hear our children's Samba band at Thornford School. It was amazing! We could not believe how much they had learnt, not just in music of course, in only the ten weeks that they have been learning from scratch the Samba sound. It was a polished performance with every child so focused on their work, that you had to be there to see (and hear) it to believe it. They were entranced by the beat and their parts in it coming together and your teacher had them all fully 'on board' for the whole event. We were delighted that they had time for an encore and could happily have listened to more. I know that we are lucky at Thornford anyway, but opportunities like this really are the icing on our cake. - School Business Manager
