This Council Plan is still in draft and has not yet been officially approved. Following further feedback and changes, the final version of the Council Plan will be adopted and published here in December.

This ambitious Council Plan sets out our commitments to you, our residents and partners. It also outlines the council’s four key priorities to be delivered in the next five years, to 2029.

Your views have helped shaped this plan. During the summer of 2024 we held a ‘Big Conservation’ to ask how we can work together to create a fairer, more prosperous and more sustainable Dorset.

This Council Plan is the result of that response and shows our shared desire to see Dorset thrive for current and future generations.

Our strategic priorities

Our 4 strategic priorities set out where we want to make a significant and positive difference. Our strategic priorities are:

  • provide high quality housing
  • grow our economy
  • communities for all
  • responding to the climate crisis

For each priority, the council has a range of approaches that it can take to ensure that the best outcomes are delivered for Dorset. For some things we can adapt the way we work . For many things it is best to work in partnership. There are also other issues where we have heard that they are a priority, and as a council we will stand up for Dorset to try and secure the resources and outcomes that are important to our residents.
