Limestone hills historic information
Generally mixed and on a smaller scale than e.g. Clay Vale, but with a greater woodland element. Piecemeal enclosure dominates, with some enclosed strip fields, particularly in the vicinity of settlements. No parliamentary enclosure, but some planned enclosure on a relatively small scale. There are large areas (particularly areas of less organised enclosure) where the character of the field boundaries suggests that they may well be surviving prehistoric or Romano-British boundaries and trackways.
