Update of The Dorset Heathlands Planning Framework Supplementary Planning Document

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP Council) and Dorset Council are jointly consulting on the ‘The Dorset Heathlands Planning Framework Supplementary Planning Document’ (SPD). The SPD covers the period 2020-2025 and supports the interpretation and implementation of statutory development policies set out in local plans.

The aim of the SPD is to set out an avoidance and mitigation strategy that will enable us to grant planning permission for new residential dwellings. The strategy ensures that the urban pressures (visitors, fire, etc.) associated with new housing significant can be mitigated to avoid harm to the Dorset Heathlands.

The strategy was first introduced in 2007. This latest update replaces the previous version that covered the period 2015-2020. Please note that this is an update of the current SPD with the intention of rolling forward the existing strategy. It is not a review of the strategic approach. Each Council will engage in a full review of the strategic approach to avoidance and mitigation through the emerging local plans later in 2020. If you would like more information about that review please contact us.

We are consulting for a 4 week period from Friday 3 January to Monday 3 February 2020. This is the statutory required consultation period for an SPD. The consultation document is available in Council offices and in local libraries.
