About the role of Chief Executive


We’re looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to inspire, transform, and deliver results. As Chief Executive, you’ll set the strategic direction of Dorset Council, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in service delivery. 
You’ll champion our values, build partnerships, and ensure Dorset Council continues to deliver outstanding results for its residents and businesses.

  • Leadership and vision: Provide strategic leadership and set a clear direction for the council, ensuring alignment with our values and ambitions
  • Partnership and influence: Build strong relationships with stakeholders and promote Dorset on local, regional, and national platforms
  • Innovation and transformation: Drive transformation programmes to deliver efficient, modern services while supporting a culture of excellence
  • Governance and accountability: Ensure transparency, compliance, and strong performance management across all areas of the council’s work
  • Community and equality: Promote inclusivity, equality, and sustainability to deliver services that meet the needs of all residents

The recruitment process

We’ve designed a thorough and inclusive recruitment process to find the right leader for Dorset Council. Here’s what to expect:

  • applications close: Sunday 23 February
  • longlisting: Monday 24 February
  • video assessments Due: Tuesday 4 March
  • shortlisting: Wednesday 12 March
  • interviews: Wednesday 26 March
  • final decision: Thursday 10 April

As a council we currently deliver around 450 services to over 380,000 residents, and this vital work will continue. These are the 4 areas where want to make significant improvement.
