Why was my rubbish not collected?
We placed a pink tag on your rubbish bin or bags because we could not collect some or all of your rubbish, according to the Recycle for Dorset service policy There are two main reasons why we would have done this:
1. Rubbish was left outside your bin
We will not collect any additional rubbish placed outside your bin.
The Recycle for Dorset service provides a sufficient capacity for the average household's non-recyclable rubbish once all recycling and food waste have been placed in the correct containers.
Most households have a 140-litre wheelie bin for rubbish, which is collected fortnightly.
Any additional rubbish left outside your bin or in unauthorised sacks will be left and a pink tag placed on your bin. It is your responsibility to deal with this rubbish and make sure your bin is not over-filled on on your next collection day. You can take extra rubbish to your nearest household recycling centre free of charge.
2. Your bin lid was not closed
All your rubbish must fit inside your bin so that the lid can be closed. If the lid cannot be closed manually, the bin and its contents will be left by the crew and a pink tag placed on it. It is your responsibility to make sure your bin is not over-filled on your next collection day. You can take extra rubbish to your nearest household recycling centre.
Please note, if your bin was not emptied because the lid was open, do not report it as a missed collection as we will not return to empty it.
What should I do about it?
It is your responsibility to deal with any additional rubbish that did not fit inside your bin, either by:
- placing it inside your empty bin and making sure you do not exceed the capacity of the bin on your next collection, or;
- taking the extra rubbish to your nearest household recycling centre
How can I reduce my rubbish?
- Use the Recycle for Dorset fortnightly recycling collection to recycle all paper, card and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, tins, cans, aerosols and batteries.
- Use your weekly food waste collection for any cooked or uncooked food.
- Try squeezing all the air out of bin liners or sacks before tying and placing them in your bin
Can I get a bigger bin?
Depending on your household's specific needs, you may be able to apply for additional sacks or a larger rubbish bin. Please note, there may be a delay before we can assess your request and make any changes.
