If you have not received your postal vote for the General Election on 4 July 2024, please call us on 01305 838299 so that a replacement can be issued.
These are moving Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) for speed limits or weight limits. See static TROs for static restrictions such as double yellow lines.
You can support, object or comment on an advertised order up to and including the closing date.
We anonymise comments before making them available for inspection by members of the public and committees.
Copies of public notices are advertised in the local area press. We do not have to display the TROs on this website by law. We aim to put them on this page as quickly as possible but sometimes there might be a delay.
The County of Dorset (A3066 Mosterton) (40mph speed limit) (No.1) Order 2024
Dorset Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.
When the order comes into operation on 17 May 2024 the effect of the order will be to introduce a new length of 40mph along a section of A3066; from the existing 30mph (near the junction of Down Road) for a distance of approximately 880 metres in a northerly direction.

Dorset Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.
When the order comes into operation on 6 June 2024 the effect of the order is to extend the existing 30mph speed limit on Northbrook Road, Swanage for 92 metres and introduce a 30mph speed limit on Washpond Lane, Swanage for 287 metres.

When the order comes into operation, the effect of the order will be to introduce 20mph limits along sections of roads in Bridport.

Please note that due to the general election pre-election period there has been a delay to the operational date for the Bridport 20mph speed limit and this will no longer be operational and enforceable on 14 June 2024.
It is now planned that the operational date will be 12 July 2024.

Dorset Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.
When the Order comes into operation on 21st June 2024 the effect of the Order is to revoke lengths of the existing 40mph speed limits and introduce new 30mph speed limits on lengths of the following roads within Bourton, Gillingham: (C173) New Road, High Street, Tan Lane, Olde Fairfield, Silton Road, Mill Lane, Brickyard Lane, West Bourton Road, Old Pound Court, Church Track, Woolcott Lane and Chaffeymoor Hill.

The county of Dorset (Northleigh Lane, Colehill) (30mph speed limit) (No. 4) Order 2024
Dorset Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.
When the Order comes into operation on 28th June 2024 the effect of the Order is to revoke the existing 40mph speed limit and extend the current 30mph Speed limit along Northleigh Lane, Colehill for 227 metres to its junction with Leigh Road.

When the Order comes into operation on 5 July 2024 the effect of the Order is to extend the existing 30mph speed limit on the A357 in a north-westerly direction for a distance of 190 metres.

Stages of consultation
TROs have to follow a legal procedure to make sure they can be introduced appropriately.
Initial consultation
The local county councillor, Dorset Police representative and parish and town councils are consulted. They need to give their full support of the proposal before any public advertisement.
Draft Order stage
The Draft Notice is advertised to the public. Each Draft Order is advertised in the local press, posted on the street and available online. Comments for or against the scheme must be made within 3 weeks.
Authority to proceed
If no objections are received, then authority to proceed can be obtained from senior management. If there are objections, these are reported to the appropriate committee who make a recommendation to cabinet. This may be to proceed as advertised, make modifications to or abandon the proposal altogether.
Made Order stage
When approval has been granted, the order is then legally signed and sealed before it becomes operational. The Made Order is then re-advertised and 6 weeks are given to challenge it in the High Court on procedural grounds.
