Dorset Coding Day 2024

Following the success of last year’s Dorset Coding Day, the event is back for 2024. We want to make this year bigger than ever before! 

Educators, if you’d like to take part, you can register to take part by filling out an online form. 

This year Coding Day will take place during the week of the 7 October and we’re encouraging local Dorset schools to sign up to get involved in what has proved to be a fantastic, interactive event.

Last year, more than 5,000 Dorset school children took part in interactive coding activities helped by over 60 tech industry volunteers. 

Coding day is for:

• school children in years 5,6 and 7 (ages 9 to 12 years)
• home educated children
• children in alternative education settings

If your child is older than the recommended ages, but you feel that they would still benefit from taking part then they are very welcome, email us to discuss arrangements. 

Coding benefits children by:

• developing problem-solving techniques 
• encouraging creativity and collaboration 
• skilling up in our increasingly technology driven world 

Coding also has applications in science, art, design and many more areas. 

Coding Day activities 

The team at Digital Dorset are joining forces with BCP (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole) Council and Barclays Digital Eagles to run this event. 

Following an activity provided by Barclays Digital Eagles, pupils will create a simple and easy-to-follow coastal-themed coding project. 

The session will last approximately one hour and will cover lots of elements of  programming. 

Tech industry volunteers 

IT specialists from local tech companies will join schools in-person where possible. They will inspire the children by sharing their own experiences of using coding and other digital technologies in their careers
